Ethics of Performance Enhancement in Sport: Drugs and Gene Doping

چکیده

Current dogma is that performance enhancement in sport is wrong. As Pound’s response shows, this dogma is predicated mainly on the view that performance enhancement violates this ‘humanistic’ conception of what sport should be. In this chapter, we will argue that performance enhancement is inevitable and unpoliceable, that it is not against the spirit of sport and that we should remove anti-doping legislation to permit safe performance enhancement. We should focus more on testing athletes’ health and fi tness to compete.
